Roughly fifty automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.
Officers report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.
The fluid had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then discovered numerous other smeared cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Police say early analysis indicate the substance was most likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; investigators are currently not informed of any injuries in relation with the event," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the residents for information.
A senior political figure said the attack made him speechless and needed to be solved promptly.
"This act affects the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on online, referring to the death of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at people of foreign heritage in 2020.
